The Inbetweeners, that awkward, politically incorrect, juvenile, yet hilariously brilliant comedy out of the UK will return for a fourth series . People who know me know that I am fanatical about this show. In fact, I reckon one of the episodes from series 1 (“ Bunk Off “) is the most amusing episode of television I’ve ever seen. This news just made my day!

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic after striking an iceberg far off the coast of Newfoundland in the early morning hours of April 14-15, 1912. The tale of the sunken ship had so many tale lines along with so much tragedy that then, as now, people are draw to it: the sinking of an “unsinkable” ship during an era of seemingly limitless technological innovation; the playing out of social class strife regarding accommodations and, of course, the lifeboats; the investigations into culpability and negligence; and the tragic loss of life so suddenly and unexpectedly. It shocked millions and intrigued countless more over the decades. The Titanic seems to this day to be more than just a ship, it’s a human tale. The discovery of its wreckage in 1985 along with the 1997 movie got most of us rediscovering the long-lost ship whose ghosts still seem to haunt the deep ocean floor. ?

Dame Maggie Smith will always be Professor Minerva McGonagall, but she also gives quite a performance in Downton Abbey as the witty, stubborn, snobbish, and sheltered Dowager Countess of Grantham. Thanks to Maggie, a PBS show about World War I-era England in which the characters wear silly costumes can really be amusing. Here’s a Youtube clip of Maggie’s more amusing moments:

As a public school teacher I have lots of time off, including this week which happens to be my Spring Break. Some of my colleagues go on vacations to various destinations, some don’t. Like nearly everyone else it’s all a matter of choice based on certain realities, mainly one’s ability to pay for one’s vacation. So, when the Obama’s choose to go on numerous luxurious vacations knowing that times are tough, that these destinations are expensive, and that the American people are paying for them, etc., it grinds on some people. Well, someone called Obama out on his expensive vacations . Here’s the exchange: Liberals try to paint themselves like they’re populist every-men, but moments like this only reinforce reality: for liberals, there’s one set of rules and circumstances for them, and another for everyone else. As Andrew Wilkow likes to say, “Socialism is for the people, not the socialists.” Thus, despite the current economic realities the nation faces, Obama deserves his luxurious trips and you deserve to pay for them.

Obama Called Out on Vacations
In an early January debate, George Stephanopoulos questioned Mitt Romney a really irrelevant question about the issue of birth control which the Supreme Court settled in 1965 and whose proposal was not on any state ballot. Then, within a month or so the Catholic outcry over Obamacare and whole Sandra Fluke-thing broke commencing the Dems charge of a Republican “War on Women”. Though they state otherwise , the Dems are clearly using the phrase as a fundraising tool and a way to tarnish the GOP’s chances with female voters this Fall. Into that mess steps DNC adviser Hilary Rosen who had this to say about Ann Romney (go to 0:46): The Dems have been in hurt-control mode all day! This, in the same week that numbers were revealed indicating that on average women are being paid 18% less than men who work in Obama’s own White House! Now we know those numbers are skewed, given that maternity leave and lack of overtime push women’s numbers down in every profession, but if the Dems want to belittle child-rearing and ignore a White House with pay equity issues, then game on. No one messes with Ann Romney!
