Christie and Booker Have Some Fun

On May 16, 2012, in News, by Rightwinger

Governor Chris Christie and Newark Mayor Corey Booker chose to have a small bipartisan fun in the Garden State.  Everyone knows that Christie’s been hard at work dealing with Jersey’s many problems, but unless you’re from around here you may not know that Booker really ran into a burning house to save a woman last month!  For real.  Here’s the spoof:

Ron Paul Essentially Calls It Quits

On May 14, 2012, in News, by Rightwinger

Texas Congressman Ron Paul announced today in an email that he will not be spending money in states where primaries have not yet been held.  Essentially, if he’s stopped campaigning, it’s pretty much over.  By not officially “suspending” his campaign, Ron Paul gets to potentially amass more delegates and possibly make some noise at the convention without having to concede defeat just yet. This is always an odd point for a campaign and for we the spectators.  Ron Paul cannot win the Republican nomination and running third party is merely playing spoiler.  So, is Ron Paul sticking around for the benefit of his supporters, or to promote his own ego and myth moving forward? I reckon a bit of both.  Ron Paul wants to be a presence at the convention and to make sure that some of his issues will not be ignored by the Establishment in Tampa, but he also probably despises having to lose to Romney ( he’s not alone in that regard ).  His views on the Fed and his libertarian streak were always food for thought.  It’s just the foreign policy stuff that made one gag from time to time.

Veterans Group Targets Obama

On May 3, 2012, in News, by Rightwinger

Responding to Obama’s poorly devised football-spiking Bin Laden ad , the group Veterans for a Stronger America produced this superb ad: Fantastic ad — a group of veterans glorifying the sacrifices of those who really carry out the overseas contingency operations War on Terror, while using Obama’s own words against him.  It doesn’t get more effective at making a point than this.

Newt Suspends Campaign

On May 2, 2012, in News, by Rightwinger

In a sober twenty-minute speech today , former House Speaker Newt Gingrich officially announced the suspension of his 2012 campaign for President.  In today’s day and age, one has to “suspend” one’s campaign rather than just “end” it since there’s usually debt involved which must be handled.  Newt’s got lots of debt — $4 million worth.  Given that and the state of the race, it was time. I endorsed Newt before Iowa and stuck by him through most of his travails — I thought Newt going negative in January to combat his opponents hurt his intellectual, above-the-fray, attack-the-press-not-fellow-Republicans image which attracted so many to him during his time as the anti-Romney du jour.  It was a respectable third-place run.  While not directly endorsing Romney, Newt reiterated an vital point: This is not a choice between Mitt Romney and Ronald Reagan – this is a choice between Mitt Romney and the most radical leftist president in American history. Amen.  With that in mind, forward onward to a victory for America in the Fall!  I hope Newt stays involved with his solutions-oriented thoughts and clear-minded perspectives, nudging Romney to the right.

Romney Ready for the Nomination

On April 25, 2012, in News, by Rightwinger

Last night was a huge one.  With only low-polling Newt and Ron Paul to combat Romney for the Republican nomination, Romney swept five Northeastern states last night:  New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Delaware.  Afterwards, Romney gave a speech in New Hampshire that I reckon was his best to date: This morning word came that Newt will officially suspend his campaign next Tuesday.  Before Iowa, I looked at the field as it was at the time and endorsed Newt .  He’s still on the New Jersey ballot so I may still symbolically vote for him when Jersey heads to the polls in June.  More likely, I may end up voting for Romney to send a unity message to the Democrats, but I’m still on the fence. As of today, here’s the RCP horse race .  Romney’s only down by about four, which isn’t fantastic news for Obama.
